Students using technologyHow Does Educational Technology Play a Role in Your Classroom?
I saw so many positive changes in my classroom from everyone, students, parents, and myself once educational technology became a part of our classroom. As a media specialist, one of my roles and goals is to work with teachers to help them see the benefits of integrating technology with what they are implementing in their curriculum.

How Do You Find Technology in the Classroom Helpful?

Educational Technology is an amazing supplemental aid. The student that may not have been interested in the assignment originally may be interested and complete once they see that they are able to use technology when creating. The student that my be too shy to orally explain his/her report, could be a different and outspoken student when they see that their report can take on a whole different aspect because of using technology. Parents that may not be able to attend teacher conferences or visit the school may still be able to communicate with teachers and view their child's work and track progress because of the type of communication that teachers can now do because of having technology. I have been able to also work with my campus art teacher at creating a digital art portfolio that students can will be able to use to display their work and their progress on their art pieces. Educational Technology is a great way for media specialists to collaborate with all of the other teachers in the campus. Our role also involves making sure that we teach and reinforce 21st century skills to students, skills such as distinguishing between information from "fake news" to being good digital citizens.

What Is Your Favorite Piece of Classroom Technology? Why?
This one is hard. I love my coding robots, such a Sphero Sprk+ & Bolt and I also enjoy the iPads. Spheros can't work with out iPads, but also, the iPad enable me to work with different grade levels and differentiate the tasks within the grade levels.

What Is On Your Technology Wish List For Your Classroom? Why?
My wishlist for EVERY classroom teacher would be iPads with the following apps installed, PicEdu, DoInk GreenScreen, ChatterPix, Seesaw, and Popplet Lite. Also for them to have coding Robots (Spheros or similar for younger students).

What Do You Love Most About Teaching?
I love watching the excitement in faces when they get to learn something new and when they are successful at something new.

Heidi Morgan, Elementary Technology Integration Specialist "In the classroom Mrs. Martindale used the iPads to push her students to higher levels of listening and speaking skills for TELPAS. In her new position in the library she set aside a day from her regular schedule for Tech Thursdays, so she can share the technology with more teachers and students. In both places, she strives for high levels of student engagement. Mrs. Martindale seeks out new ways to integrate technology into her library lessons and is working with the STEAM Club after school with Sphero and other bots. Additionally, Adriana had the highest number of students pass the TELPAS test last year due to the amount of technology she used in the classroom with her 2nd graders, 13 of the 16 Ashbel Smith students who passed were her students."
