The Goose Creek CISD Career Academies are small learning communities within larger campuses that focus on a career theme. Academy students take classes as a group (cohort) which provides students the opportunity to attend classes with other students with similar interests.

Academic classes integrate the career theme into assignments, with projects that span across multiple subjects. Students learn from a rigorous curriculum, which includes opportunities for Advanced Placement (AP) courses, dual credit courses, career-oriented courses, and college and career learning opportunities directly related to the career theme. Enrichment activities that help students learn more about college and career opportunities are provided each semester and culminate in a senior capstone experience that may include internships, practicums, mentoring or other career-based experiences.

All 8th grade students may apply to any of the Goose Creek CISD Academies regardless of the high school to which they are zoned. The district provides transportation to each of the academies for all students. Academy students at REL, RSS & GCM are eligible for the extra-curricular activities that are available at each of the high schools, and all academy students are expected to participate in the career and technical student organization connected to their curriculum.

Current Career Academy Options in GCCISD include the following:

  • Advanced Automotive Academy
  • Agriculture Science Academy (Veterinary Medicine)
  • Career Academy for Future Educators
  • Culinary Arts Academy
  • Global Business Career Academy
  • Manufacturing & Industrial Maintenance Academy

  • Health Science Career Academy
  • Information Technology Career Academy

Early College High Schools are innovative schools that are designed to overlap high school and college. They enable highly motivated students to complete an associate degree or a college certification program before they graduate from high school.

The majority of classes taken by students are college-level classes, frequently taught by college teachers and on the college campus. These campuses provide dual credit college courses at no cost to students, provide academic and social support services to help students succeed, increase college readiness, and reduce barriers to college access.

Transportation is provided for students who are accepted into an early college high school. Students must complete the full application process in January to be considered for an early college high school.

GCCISD offers two (2) early college high schools: IMPACT Early College HS and Stuart Career Tech HS.

These high schools are the campuses that students are zoned to based upon their address.

Each zoned campus offers a comprehensive academic and enrichment curriculum, with many athletic, fine arts, and additional programs to engage students in their high school experience.

GCCISD has three traditional high schools: Goose Creek Memorial HS, Robert E. Lee HS and Ross S. Sterling HS.

Career and Technical Education Course Selection:

It is the policy of GCCISD not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, handicap, or age in its course enrollment process. Any student who has met the prerequisites for a course is eligible for enrollment.  All courses have an open enrollment policy. However, some courses do receive more student requests than can be accommodated. For this reason, students are required to complete applications for many high demand Career and Technical Education courses. Other courses and some specific programs have specific requirements set by the State of Texas or by local business and industry advisory committees.

Course Applications are scored based upon the

  • student’s grade level appropriateness,
  • student’s intent to complete all of the courses in the Program of Study,
  • student’s  intent to continue the Program of Study into post-secondary education,
  • student’s intent to pursue a career in the Program of Study,
  • related courses and occupational experience in a related area,
  • unexcused absences during the year prior to taking the course, and
  • disciplinary placements during the year prior to taking the course.

Program applications for internships and other activities may have criteria based upon input from industry specific guidelines. Students and parents should directly contact the teacher concerning and questions about program involvement.
