September 2013 - Toni Rosenbaum

Toni Rosenbaum is a 6th grade Social Studies and Journalism teacher at Gentry Junior School. Mrs. Rosenbaum is a campus and district leader. In 2012, Mrs. Rosenbaum received a class set of Lenovo netbooks through a district technology initiative. During the year she incorporated technology into her existing lessons and developed a number of new and innovative lessons using technology. Having the laptops gives Mrs. Rosenbaum an extra element to her lessons. Students can be creative with their work and share it with the world.

Student using technology
Mrs. Rosenbaum and her students are active participants in History Fair. Every year her students excel in History Fair competitions at the state and national levels.  Mrs. Rosenbaum used Edmodo to dialogue with students and parents about History Fair. “Edmodo completely changed the way we do History Fair. I was able to have parents sign up for an account” and keep them updated on History Fair related events.
Student using technology
Additionally, Mrs. Rosenbaum uses Edmodo in her classroom. Edmodo has given her the opportunity to communicate with students and parents outside of the school day in a safe environment. Edmodo also helps teach students social responsibility on the Internet. Digital Citizenship is an important component to Mrs. Rosenbaum’s class environment. Students are able to refocus their attention on “education media instead of social media”.

These technology tools help move her classroom from teacher driven to student driven. This focus allows students to take ownership of their learning and excel as never before. Mr. Gillings, principal of Gentry Junior School, notes “We at Gentry are very proud of Mrs. Rosenbaum to be selected for this award! She always does a great job of integrating technology into her Social Studies classes.”
