How Does Educational Technology Play a Role in Your Classroom?
Technology plays a large role in my classroom through the use of Edmodo, Keynote and Nearpod. I use technology on a daily basis to provide access to my lessons even for students who are at home or at POINT.
How Do You Find Technology in the Classroom Helpful?
Technology helps me bring lessons to students who are not in the classroom and it enhances lessons for students in the class. My students can be on varying levels of American Sign Language and through technology I am able to help both students at the same time. It has also given my students the opportunity to connect in discussions/polls or studying while they are at home.
What Is Your Favorite Piece of Classroom Technology? Why?
My favorite piece of technology is Edmodo. I love that I am able to upload discussions, quizzes, and videos of vocabulary. It is a great tool to help students engage and study when they are at home. Students have an opportunity to become more fluent in the language through the technology that is shared with them.
What Is On Your Technology Wish List For Your Classroom? Why?
I would love to have Flip camera and a student computer for students to record themselves signing songs or projects. After they are done recording themselves they can load it to their student account and save it to watch their improvement throughout the school year. This would help my students who do not have an iPad.
What Do You Love Most About Teaching?
I love the ability to make an impact with these high school students and the deaf community in a small way. My day is made when students share their stories about meeting a deaf customer at their work and they were able to communicate with them. It is an amazing feeling when they explain how happy the deaf person was even if they only knew a little sign language and the confidence booster it was to my student.
