What Do You Teach? I teach 7th grade English Language Arts at E.F. Green Junior School, where I serve as the ELA Department Chair. My focus is helping students grow as critical readers, confident writers, and thoughtful communicators.
How Long Have You Been Teaching? This is my eighth year in education. I previously taught in Humble ISD and Galena Park ISD before joining Goose Creek CISD, and each role has shaped my leadership and instructional foundation.
How Does Educational Technology Play a Role in Your Classroom? Educational technology is woven into the daily structure of my classroom. I use it to model writing, provide targeted feedback, track student progress, personalize assignments, and increase student engagement. Technology supports both my instructional decision-making and my students’ ability to take ownership of their learning.
How Do You Find Technology in the Classroom Helpful? Technology helps me differentiate instruction efficiently and meet students where they are. Programs like Quill and NoRedInk allow students to practice specific writing and grammar skills at their own pace while giving me real-time data on their mastery. Tools like Pear Deck, Google Classroom, and Gimkit make lessons more interactive and allow all students, quiet or outspoken, to participate actively.
What Is Your Favorite Piece of Classroom Technology? Why? My favorite tech tool currently is a new addition: IXL. I believe IXL combines what many of the applications in my classroom can do but provides a student-friendly approach with clear goals and awards for achievement. I am excited to see what potential IXL might hold for our students as we explore the platform further.
What Do You Love Most About Teaching? What I love most is building relationships and watching students grow in confidence. Seeing a student realize they can write something powerful, or understand a text that once seemed overwhelming, makes every challenge worthwhile. Teaching allows me to guide students academically and support them personally, which is what keeps me passionate about education.
What is one thing you would like to add to your classroom tech wish list? We might be able to get it for you. I would like a class set of iPad chargers along with a dedicated charging station. Many students arrive with low or dead devices, especially later in the day, which disrupts their ability to participate in writing, reading, and interactive assignments. A charging station would help maintain consistent access to technology, reduce downtime, and support smoother instructional flow.
