About Me

Hello Cowboys! My name is Kristen Verbick, and I am the school nurse here at Clark Elementary. I graduated from Texas Woman’s University with my nursing degree in 2009. I worked for 10 years in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital before I made the move to school nursing. This will be my 6th year at Clark Elementary and I could not love this school more.

I have been married for 13 years and have 2 kids (Nolan is 10yrs and Avery is 7yrs), 3 dogs (Bregs, Tuve, and Rachel), a bearded dragon (Dustin), and a hedgehog (Hailee). It is an absolute joy and privilege taking care of our students (and occasionally staff) here at Clark. I always try to treat your children as if they were my own, and my goal is to help provide a safe and healthy environment for all our students.

Safety Precautions in Clinic

The following changes have been made in the clinic to minimize visits by healthy students, and also to prevent those who are sick from exposing others. Masks will be mandatory in the clinic.

The clinic will be divided into a “sick side” and a “healthy side” with a separate entrance/exit for each area. Children exhibiting ANY COVID symptoms will be placed in a supervised isolation room until they are picked up. Medications may be delivered to classroom to minimize the number of “healthy” children entering clinic.

  • If it is possible to give your child’s medication to him/her at home, please do so.
  • Teachers have been given first aid bags so that they can manage minor issues/injuries in the classroom.
  • Over the counter medications will be discouraged in the clinic this year (many of the symptoms kids are needing OTC meds for are now symptoms that will get them sent home). If you need to bring an OTC medication to school please call me first so we can discuss it.

Reminders

  • All health service forms (medication permission form, action plans, special dietary accommodations) can be downloaded and printed from home – see the nurse tab on the Clark webpage for the link. https://www.gccisd.net/page/HealthServices.Home
  • All medications must be delivered by adult, unopened, in original packaging, with prescription label (if applicable). A Medication Permission Form must be filled out as well. THIS INCLUDES COUGH DROPS.
  • Please ensure that your child has a change of clothes in his/her backpack at all times (PREk – 5th).
  • Please keep me updated on any changes to your child’s health throughout the year.
  • Please make sure your child is able to eat breakfast each morning (at home or school) and brings a clear water bottle (labeled with name) to school each day.
  • Your child must be fever free (without the use of medications) for 24hours before returning to school. Anything over 99.9 degrees Fahrenheit is considered fever.
