Nurse's Corner

Welcome back to the 2020-2021 school year. In the interest of illness prevention and wellness promotion, the health services department would like to share the following important parent/guardian reminders:

  • All medication should be dropped off and picked up from the school clinic by a parent or guardian. Students are not allowed to carry or self-administer medication while at school.

  • For medication administered during school hours, we will require paperwork to be completed and signed by the parent/guardian and returned to the nurse before the medication can be given. Some medications may require that a physician sign the paperwork.

  • Please call or make arrangements to meet with the school nurse to discuss any health issues or medical concerns you may have regarding your child as soon as possible. Your child’s health information should be updated every year or when there are changes in their health. An understanding of your child’s current health condition will allow us to better care for and accommodate your child and their learning environment.

  • Please send a change of clothing (weather appropriate) for your child to keep in their backpack every day. Check your child’s backpack daily and replace soiled clothing as needed.Children, no matter what age, can have spills, bathroom accidents, slip in the mud, etc. and need to change their clothing while at school.

In the interest of overall health prevention and COVID-19 prevention, we are asking for your cooperation with the following guidelines:

  • Please do not send you child to school if they are sick with COVID-19 symptoms or other contagious illness such as pink eye, impetigo, or unexplained rash.
  • Notify the school if your child is staying home with COVID-19 symptoms.
  • We are asking parents to please:
    • be extra diligent that your contact information is up-to-date in the parent portal at all times
    • add the school number to your contacts in your phone (281-420-4625)
    • ensure that you or an approved contact person (family members, friends, neighbors) are able to be reached at all times
    • have a plan in place for your child to be picked up promptly when we call you
    • Please add approved contacts to your parent portal or ask a Lamar staff person to help you with this.
  • This year, due to COVID-19, we will have different guidelines for students going home and being able to return to school.Nurse Powell will let you know when your child is allowed to return to school and what will be required. The GCCISD website also has this information for you to review.
