About Me

My name is Rebecca Butler, and I am so excited to be the Early Learning Academy School Counselor at Pumphrey Elementary. I am passionate about working with young children as they enter the school system for the first time and help them adjust to this new environment. I truly believe that the first years in education are the most important in ensuring a lifelong love of learning.

This will be my 30th year in education. I graduated from Lamar University in 1994 with a Bachelor’s in Music education and served as a band director and music teacher for 19 years. I graduated with my Masters in School Counseling from Lamar University in 2012. I have since then been a PreK and Kindergarten counselor.

As the ELA counselor, I will be working with all students in the classroom through monthly lessons. I will also work with students in small groups and/or individually when needed. I love working with students and partnering with parents and teachers to help students achieve their goals and find success by developing healthy relationships with peers and adults.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you ever have any questions or concerns.

Character Strong

Developing good character is an on-going process at Pumphrey Elementary. The Character Strong curriculum focuses on social-emotional learning to help our students be productive, empathetic, successful people. It encourages the development of essential character traits and learning habits to empower their success in elementary school and beyond. The character traits that will be taught are Kindness, Courage, Cooperation, Empathy, Respect, Perseverance, Honesty, Responsibility, and Gratitude. Students are reminded of these traits on the morning announcements and with lessons in the classroom. We encourage you to support these same traits at home as a connection between home and school.
