My name is Phillip Velarde, but the kids know me as Mr. V! I am the Choir Director at CBJ.
This is my first year at CBJ and my second year as a middle school Choir Director. Here at Cedar Bayou Choir, we will strive to create a robust and inter-curricular learning environment where we all find our voice! Combining history, math, reading and literacy, there is something for everyone in choir. We work on building our vocal abilities, as well as how to read music, how to perform music in a group and solo, listening skills, interpersonal skills and connecting the history of the piece and the composer to our music.
Every group will be performing three or more times every year, so make sure to come out and support your CBJ Choir Program when we perform at home or abroad!
On top of being a music teacher, I also work as a professional singer at the
St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the Houston Chamber Choir. When I am not teaching or singing, I enjoy spending time outdoors, either trail-running far distances or gardening.
