Hello Eagle Nation, I am James Gray.  I started my education career in 1984.  I am graduate of the University of New Orleans for the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate education.  Yes, I am Louisiana born by way of two small towns outside of the city of New Orleans.  I am a husband of 40+ years, a dad and a grandfather.  I have been Principal for 22 years and an Assistant Principal for 6 years.  I was an administrator in Louisiana and California.  I am here to serve the Highlands community and the GCCISD community.  I look forward to working with and for you!

Stephanie Sanchez

HJS Assistant Principal

7th Grade 

My name is Stephanie Sanchez and I have been an Assistant Principal at Highlands Junior since August of 2020.  I believe in creating a safe environment where all of our students can rise to their best level.  I enjoy speaking with our students and parents and getting to know them so that I can help them excel.

I have been an Assistant Principal in Goose Creek since September 2004, where I have worked on both elementary and junior high campuses. Before becoming an Assistant Principal, I was a junior high science and math teacher out of district.  I received my Masters of Education in School Administration from U of H, and my Bachelors in Elementary Education, Psychology and Sociology from a private college in Iowa.

My husband and I are the proud parents of two high school boys who are involved in Football, Track and Field and Powerlifting.  As a family, we enjoy fishing, attending high school sporting events, and eating at restaurants.  We also have 2 dogs, 5 chickens and 2 ducks as family pets!

Melissa May

HJS Assistant Principal

8th Grade 

Ms. May has worked in Goose Creek CISD for more than 20 years and was a student in Goose Creek schools.  In 1993, she graduated from Ross S. Sterling High School and University of Houston Clear Lake in 1998.  Ms. May began her teaching career at Ross S. Sterling High School and served as a classroom teacher for 15 years at both Ross S. Sterling and Goose Creek Memorial High Schools.  She moved into administration, working first with Social Studies teachers throughout GCCISD as a District Instructional Specialist for 4 years, then joined campus administrative teams serving both elementary and junior high students.  Ms. May is honored to serve the students and families of the Baytown/Highlands communities.
