The Goose Creek Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recently announced that the winners of this year’s essay contest are Maya and Byanca of Ross S. Sterling High School. In honor of the 250th anniversary of our nation's founding, this year’s theme was “Patriots of the American Revolution.” Students were asked to write about a patriot who inspired them. Essays could focus on a founding father or on an ordinary child, woman, or man who supported the American Revolution in both large and small ways. Entries were judged on historical accuracy, organization, originality, student interest, spelling, grammar, punctuation, quality and scope of references, and the use of primary sources.
