Dr. Sims has been married to Dowen Sims for 31 years, and they have one son, Desmond Sims (just graduated from Tulane University) and one daughter, Aleyah Sims (Junior at Texas State University). Dr. Sims proudly acknowledges that none of her accomplishments would be possible without the support of her husband and children.  Her belief in God has played a vital role in overcoming obstacles and fulfilling her dreams.  Her can-do attitude has proved inspirational to scholars and educators.  She stands on the scripture, “God is within her, she will not fail.” (Psalm 46:5 NIV)
