About Mrs. Slack:

Mrs. Slack started out in education as a substitute teacher in August 1999.  She graduated with a BS in education from Pittsburgh State University in May 2001 and began teaching 4^th grade in August of that year.  She’s taught all grade levels K -5^th as a classroom teacher, Reading Intervention, Gifted & Talented, and Art Teacher.  She attended Lamar University and graduated with a Master of Education in School Counseling in May 2015.  Since then she has been a school counselor and student wellness interventionist.  Mrs. Slack is also a National Board Certified Counselor, a Licensed Professional Counselor, and a Registered Play Therapist. 

Mrs. Slack is married, has 3 kids, 2 dogs, and 2 cats.  She grew up in Kansas but has lived in Texas since 2001.  Her favorite thing to do is to be outside with her family.  She enjoys camping, going to the lake, reading, Legos, and board games.  She loves chocolate, Mexican food, and sunflowers.

Mrs. Slack’s favorite author is Patricia Polacco and her favorite quote is “Let your light shine,” (Matthew 5:16) Mrs. Slack’s heart is to be a helper.  She’s here to encourage students and to equip families to be their best.  Call or email her anytime.

About Mr. Barahona

Hello Bowie Bears and visitors! I am Mr. Barahona your new counselor here at Bowie Elementary. It is my pleasure to serve our students, mainly 3rd, 4^th and 5^th graders. I have been in education for 16 years and I am a proud product of GCCISD. I am married to an amazing wife, and together we have two beautiful children, Lucas and Larissa. I earned my bachelor's degree from the University of Houston (Main Campus) and my counseling degree from the University of Houston at Victoria (Go Counseling Jags!). I am excited to continue to Grow Giants here in Bear country!
